About Breathe Free Clinic

Breathing Well Underpins Good Health

Breathe Free Clinic was set up after practitioner Felicity Campbell had experienced for herself the benefits of breathing correctly and wanted to enable others to access the training.

When stressors, whether lifestyle, diet, environmental or psychological, become too great, they alter our breathing and over time these patterns become habitual.

Functional healthy breathing is at the heart of wellness and resilience in our fast paced ever-changing world.

Over the past century we have seen a huge rise in non-communicable diseases such as asthma, sleep apnoea, diabetes, heart disease, chronic fatigue and mental health issues to name a few.

Traditional medicine has struggled to deal with this rise without pharmaceutical help or devices, which can often fall short and can cause undesirable side effects or impacts on lifestyle.

It has therefore become essential for individuals to learn about and take more responsibility for their own health in order to stay well.

This is what breathing re-education at the Breathe Free Clinic aims to do.

WHAT WE ARE NOT:

  • An instant fix or magic bullet or pill which you are dependent on

WHAT WE DO:

  • Assess your breathing function
  • Teach a long lasting way for you to take back some health control
  • Teach you the science behind functional breathing
  • Offer support throughout your journey to improve your breathing health

Breathe Free Clinic Practitioner  I   Felicity Campbell

Felicity is a Buteyko Institute Trained Breathing Educator, Life Coach and Mentor.

Her teaching incorporates the Buteyko method, capnography (which assists in assessment of breathing function and retraining), and a gentle breathing method developed by an Australian physiotherapist, whom she also trained under.

“I was inspired to become a practitioner because of the lasting health benefits I had had myself after learning the Buteyko technique over 18 years ago; and because of it’s widespread application. I would love to pass this on to others.”

What qualifies me now to teach you this method?

  • My own personal experience and success in using this breathing technique after attending a course run by Australian BIBH (Buteyko Institute of Breathing and Health) founding members, Russell and Jennifer Stark. My Journey
  • Two years of practitioner training and subsequent mentoring under well-known Auckland trainer, Glenn White of the Buteyko Breathing Clinic, to qualify as an Associate Buteyko Institute of Breathing and Health (BIBH) practitioner.
  • Completion of two breathing courses followed by a year of mentoring under Brisbane based Australian physiotherapist and Buteyko practitioner, Tess Graham, author of ‘Relief from Snoring and Sleep Apnoea’  and ‘Relief From Anxiety and Panic’.
  • Basic Capnography Training with Dr Ines Steward.
  • A foundation in science from high school and University (B.Hort. Sc. and post grad Dip L.A.) –  the science behind this method makes sense and uses research and trials to back it up.
  •  Qualification as a Life Coach (Affiliate of ICF).
  • Training with Les Mills and Sport Waikato to be a fitness instructor.
  • A lifelong interest in holistic health and wellbeing.
  • Founding member of Breathing Clinics New Zealand (BCNZ).
  •  Being part of the integrative health world can be both exciting and daunting. It requires ongoing professional development and upskilling to both deepen breathing practitioner knowledge and knowing when referral is important. Felicity organises regular professional development training for members of both the BIBH and BCNZ (Breathing Clinics New Zealand).

If you would like to book a breathing assessment or attend a course in the Waikato, please contact the Breathe Free Clinic by phone or email.

About Buteyko

How was the Buteyko Method Developed?

Ukranian-born Professor Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko brought his mechanical engineering skills to bear when he developed a programme of breathing exercises and lifestyle guidelines that are now known as The Buteyko Method, after graduating as a medical doctor in 1952.

The Buteyko breathing method has been proven to alleviate a wide range of disorders such as panic attacks and anxiety, snoring and sleep apnoea, asthma, epilepsy and breathlessness, because it treats the common causal denominator in these cases, and teaches how and why correcting breathing dysfunction will do this.

Glenn White of the Buteyko Breathing Clinic has worked hard to inform New Zealand health professionals of the benefits and efficacy of the Buteyko method when taught by a well- trained practitioner. As a result of over 15 years of hard work, it is now endorsed by a number of doctors and natural health professionals.

The Buteyko breathing method has many applications for individual health and it will be a great day when we see it become embedded in health education at school and home as a basic hygiene practice which starts young.
